Drosera gigantea, also known as the giant sundew, is a unique and fascinating carnivorous plant that is native to Western Australia. It can be found in sandy soils near swamps and granite outcrops along the coast. This plant is known for its tall, tree-like form and can grow up to 1 meter in height. It is easily cultivated in greenhouses and produces white flowers from August to November. The red tubers of this species can grow to be 3.8 cm in diameter and are often found underground. D. gigantea was first described in 1839 and a new subspecies was identified in 1992. However, there is some disagreement about the classification of this subspecies. The plant has also been found to contain rare secondary metabolites, which may contribute to its unique appearance.
