Heliotropium europaeum, also known as European heliotrope or turn-sole, is a plant species native to Europe, Asia, and North Africa. It has been naturalized in other parts of the world, including Australia and North America. This annual herb grows up to 40 centimeters tall and is commonly found as a roadside weed. It has a taproot and is covered in soft hairs, with oval-shaped leaves and coiled spikes of white flowers. The plant produces bumpy nutlets as its fruit. However, it is important to note that Heliotropium europaeum is toxic due to the presence of pyrrolizidine alkaloids, making it poisonous to humans and animals.
