Adenophora triphylla, also known as Japanese lady bell, is a perennial herb in the Campanulaceae family. It has a white taproot and oval, serrated leaves. The flowers are pollinated by insects and produce yellow-brown oblong seeds. This plant is found in grassy areas in lowlands and mountains in Korea, Japan, China, Laos, Russia, and Vietnam. It grows well in warm and sunny areas with alkaline or peaty soil. It is hardy to -20°C and can be propagated through seeds. The roots of A. triphylla contain saponins and triterpenes and have been traditionally used in Korean medicine for respiratory issues.
