Porophyllum gracile, also known as odora or slender poreleaf, is a flowering plant found in northern Mexico and the southwestern United States. It grows into a small, short-lived shrub with hairless, waxy stems and linear leaves. The plant produces a strong scent due to glands located in its leaves, stems, and phyllaries. Its inflorescence produces narrow flower heads with 20-30 white or purplish disc florets. The plant is also known for its medicinal uses, with the Seri people using it as a tea for colds and childbirth and the roots being used to treat toothaches. In Mexican markets, it is sold as a medicinal plant and is commonly known as "hierba del venado." These uses may have scientific validity as the plant contains thiophenes, which have been shown to have bactericidal properties.
