Summary:
Olearia paniculata, also known as akiraho, is a small evergreen tree found only in New Zealand. It can grow up to 6 meters tall and has yellow-green oval-shaped leaves with white undersides and wavy margins. In late autumn, it produces clusters of daisy flowers. This species is endemic to both the North and South Islands of New Zealand and is commonly found in coastal areas with dry, well-draining soil. It is not native to Taranaki but can be seen growing rapidly as a hedge plant. Olearia paniculata has no known pests or diseases, but may be eaten by goats, cattle, and sheep. When cultivated, it requires moderate watering and well-cultivated soil. It is important to ensure the root ball is saturated when planting.
