Pterostylis ventricosa, also known as the pot-bellied greenhood orchid, is a recently discovered and critically endangered species of orchid found only in a small area of New South Wales, Australia. It is a terrestrial plant with a rosette of leaves when not flowering, but can have up to six tiny green, white, and brown flowers when in bloom. This orchid has a unique relationship with fungi in the soil and is important for the ecosystem. Due to threats such as land clearing and illegal collection, it is classified as critically endangered. However, a recent discovery of approximately 170 plants in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales has shown the positive impact of conservation efforts.
