Pterostylis tasmanica, also known as the small bearded greenhood, is a species of orchid found in south-eastern Australia and New Zealand. It has a single green flower with translucent "windows" and a long, thin labellum bordered with golden hairs. This plant is similar to P. plumosa but has smaller leaves and flowers, and a more densely feathery labellum. It is a terrestrial, perennial herb with dark green leaves and a single flower on a stem. The flower appears from September to November and is bearded with bright yellow hairs. P. tasmanica was first described in 1994 and its name refers to its distribution in Tasmania and the Tasmanian basin. It can be found in coastal heath and scrub habitats and is widespread in Tasmania, as well as in parts of New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, and New Zealand. This species is autogamous, meaning it can self-pollinate, and its ovary is already swollen when the flowers open.
