Pterostylis sanguinea, also known as the red-banded greenhood or dark-banded greenhood, is a perennial orchid endemic to southern Australia. It has a rosette of leaves when not flowering and up to twelve dark reddish-brown or green flowers on a flowering spike when in bloom. This common and widespread orchid can be found in Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, and occasionally in Tasmania. Its specific epithet, sanguinea, refers to the blood-red color of its flowers. Pterostylis sanguinea grows in well-drained soils in forest and woodland habitats. It is not considered threatened in Western Australia, but is classified as rare in Tasmania.
