Pterostylis rufa is a terrestrial, perennial, deciduous, herb with an underground tuber native to south-eastern Australia. It has a rosette of between five and twelve elliptic to egg-shaped leaves and between two and fifteen bright reddish-brown flowers with translucent white panels. It is pollinated by fungus gnats of the species Orfelia and grows in heathy woodland and open forest, often in shallow soil in rocky places.
