Pterostylis major is a plant in the orchid family that is found only in New South Wales, specifically on the Northern Tablelands. Its non-flowering plants have a rosette of leaves on a short stalk, while the flowering plants lack a rosette and have up to eleven bright green flowers with darker stripes on a flowering stem. This plant is a terrestrial, perennial, deciduous herb with an underground tuber. It can grow up to 650 mm high and has linear to lance-shaped stem leaves. The flowers are translucent and bloom from April to September. This species was first described in 2006 and was later renamed in 2010. Its name, major, refers to its larger size compared to a similar species. Pterostylis major is typically found in tall forests alongside grasses and shrubs on the New England Tableland and Barrington Tops.
