Pterostylis exalla is a unique plant belonging to the orchid family and found only in South Australia. It was first identified and named in 2009 by David Jones as Oligochaetochilus exallus, based on a specimen collected in the Southern Lofty region. However, in 2010, Gary Backhouse changed its name to Pterostylis exalla. The species name, exalla, comes from the Greek word meaning "quite different".
