Pterostylis cernua, also known as the Westland greenhood, is a type of orchid found only in New Zealand. It has a rosette of leaves when not flowering, but produces a single white, dark green, and reddish-brown flower on a tall stem when in bloom. The flower has a unique shape, with a hood-like structure over the column and a curved labellum. It blooms from November to January and is found in swampy and flooded areas on the west coast of the South Island. This species was first described in 1997 and its name, cernua, comes from the Latin word for "nodding" or "facing earthward".
