Dendrobium pulchellum, also known as charming dendrobium, is a stunning orchid native to Southeast Asia. It blooms from the end of winter into early spring, as it requires cooler temperatures for growth. This species can be found in deciduous forests in countries such as Assam, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam. The flowers of Dendrobium pulchellum are large and white with hints of purple and yellow pigments. The plant can grow up to 15-18 inches tall and can be found growing on trees or rocks. Its fragrant flowers and broad leaves make it a popular choice for traditional Chinese medicine. Seed germination is important for the production of hybrids, which helps to increase genetic diversity in orchids. Symbiotic seedlings have been found to develop more quickly than asymbiotic methods, and can even inoculate the soil with beneficial fungi. Understanding the specific fungal species in the soil is crucial for successful symbiotic seed propagation.
