Iris winogradowii is a bulbous perennial plant native to the Caucasus mountains of Azerbaijan and Georgia. It has pale yellow flowers with green spots and a pleasant scent, blooming between April and May. The plant reaches a height of 10-15 cm with 2-4 leaves each growing season. It was named after P.Z. Winogradow-Nitikin and first described in 1914. This iris is now considered endangered due to over-collection in its native habitat. It prefers to grow in semi-shade in cool, peat-enriched soil and is often grown in rock gardens or bulb frames. There are several cultivars of this species, including Iris 'Katharine Hodgkin' and Iris 'Sheila Ann Germaney'. Other sources for information on this plant include the Flora SSSR and The Iris by B. Mathew.
