Iris uniflora var. caricina Kitag. – which has a flower spike, growing shorter than the foliage.
Iris uniflora is a species in the genus Iris, native to temperate regions of Asia. It is a rhizomatous perennial with thin grass-like leaves and stems, and purple, blue-purple or violet flowers. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant in temperate regions and is used within Tibetan herbal medicines. It has a thin creeping rhizome that is brown and branched, with fibrous roots. It has slender flowering stems that grow up to 15 cm long, occasionally branched, and thin grass-like leaves (linear and lanceolate). It blooms between May and June, normally with one flower, but occasionally with two flowers, which have a violet-like fragrance. It has been examined several times to find its chromosome count, which is 2n = 40. It is found in Central Asia, Russia, Mongolia, Tibet, Korea and China.
