Iris stenophylla is a species of flowering plant in the genus Iris, belonging to the subgenus Scorpiris. It is a bulbous perennial with a similar form to Iris persica, but with different coloring. The plant has a bulb with brown papery tunics and fleshy storage roots, and its stem is often hidden by the leaves. It produces one flower per unbranched stem between March and May in the UK, and earlier in America. The flowers are typically 5.5-6.5 cm in diameter and come in shades of violet-blue or lilac-blue with a darker blade and a yellow or orange crest. The leaves are shorter than the stem at blooming time, but can later grow up to 10-25 cm long. Unlike other Juno irises, they do not have a white margin. Iris stenophylla is native to Asia, specifically Turkey near the West Taurus Mountains. It grows on rocky hillsides and alpine meadows at altitudes of 400-2,000 m above sea level. The plant is considered vulnerable and at risk in its native habitat and is listed in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Plants. In cultivation, it is hard
