Iris sprengeri
Iris sprengeri is a species of iris that belongs to the subgenus Iris and the Oncocyclus section. It is native to the mountain slopes of Turkey and has large, showy flowers that come in white, silver-white, or cream colors with purple-red or reddish-brown veining. The flowers also have a golden yellow beard and a dark purple or deep purple-brown signal patch. This plant has a slender rhizome and long stolons, allowing it to produce offshoots at a distance from the parent plant. It is a dwarf-like species, reaching a height of 6-15 cm. It blooms in April and May or July and has two pairs of petals, with the outer petals known as "falls" and the inner petals known as "standards." The plant is diploid, but its chromosome count has not been published. It was discovered in 1903 by Walter Siehe and named after German nurseryman Carl L. Sprenger. Iris sprengeri is found in Turkey and Iran, growing on mountains, steppes, and screes at an altitude of 1,000 to 2,000 m. It can be grown in well-drained, nutrient-rich
