Iris schelkownikowii is a species of iris native to the Transcaucasus region of Azerbaijan. It belongs to the genus Iris, subgenus Iris, and Oncocyclus section. The plant forms small clumps with intact leaves until the end of summer. Its flowers are large and fragrant, measuring 8-10 cm in diameter, and come in shades of bluish or grey-purple violet with dark brown veining. The falls have a reddish purple signal patch and a yellow beard. It is diploid with a chromosome count of 2n=20. The plant was originally described as Iris acutiloba var. schelkownicowii in 1904, but was later raised to a full species in 1909. The specific epithet, schelkownikowii, honors botanist Alexandr Bebutovicz Schelkownikow, who collected plant specimens with Georg Jurij Nikolaewitch Woronow. It prefers a hot and dry climate, such as steppes, and should be divided every two years for optimal growth. Like many other irises, it is poisonous if ingested and may cause skin irritation or allergic reactions.
