Iris pseudonotha is a rhizomatous perennial plant from the Caucasus region, commonly known as Lozhnonenastoyaschy Iris in Russia. It has lilac and yellow flowers and is cultivated as an ornamental plant in temperate regions. The plant has thick, branching rhizomes and greyish green, sword-shaped leaves. Its stems can grow up to 50-76 cm tall and hold 3-5 fragrant flowers from June to July. The flowers can vary in color from dark purple to off-white. It has lanceolate spathes and 2 pairs of petals, with the outer petals known as 'falls' and the inner petals known as 'standards'. After flowering, it produces a seed capsule with light brown seeds. Iris pseudonotha is an accepted name by the RHS and is listed as Vulnerable in the Red Data Book of the Russian Federation. It is hardy in various regions of Russia and can tolerate salty and damp soils. It has been used in plant breeding programs and is grown in the Botanical Garden of Stavropol.
