Iris odaesanensis is a rare beardless iris found in China and eastern Korea. It has blue-green grass-like leaves and produces 1-2 fragrant white or off-white flowers in spring to early summer. It is a rhizomatous herbaceous perennial and is cultivated in East Asia. The plant is more vigorous than other similar irises and has small, slender rhizomes that spread through stolons. It grows in forest margins, mountain meadows, and damp hillsides at altitudes of 1,500 meters above sea level. The plant is classified as rare and endangered, with populations declining rapidly. Efforts are being made to preserve and propagate the species. It can be propagated through division or by seed, but it takes several years for the plant to mature and produce flowers. There are a few known varieties of Iris odaesanensis, and it has been featured on a Korean postage stamp. The plant is toxic if ingested and can cause skin irritation.
