Iris notha is a species of perennial plant in the genus Iris, known for its deep blue or violet flowers. It is native to the Caucasus region and is commonly cultivated as an ornamental plant in temperate regions. It was previously classified as Iris spuria subsp. notha and can still be found under that name. It is also known as fake iris or mimic iris in Russia. The plant has a stout rhizome and long, smooth leaves. Its flowers have two pairs of petals and are typically violet-blue or bright blue. After flowering, it produces a seed capsule with flattened, wrinkled seeds. Iris notha has a chromosome count of 2n=38 and is diploid. It was first described in 1819 and is currently an accepted name by the RHS. It is found in the Caucasus region and grows in various habitats, including meadows, woodlands, and hillsides. Due to its fragmented population and threats such as picking for bouquets and grazing, it is listed in the Red Data Book of the Russian Federation. Iris notha is hardy and can be grown in parks and gardens, and it can be propagated through division or seed growing.
