Iris minutoaurea is a beardless iris native to eastern Asia, specifically China and Korea. It has also been naturalized in Japan. This rhizomatous herbaceous perennial has long, grassy-like leaves and produces bright yellow or pale yellow flowers on a short stem. It is commonly cultivated as an ornamental plant in temperate regions. It can sometimes be mistaken for another yellow flowering Chinese iris, Iris henryi, but can be distinguished by the sizes of its flower stalk and perianth tube. This iris has been studied for its growth and flowering patterns, and its diploid chromosome count has been used to identify hybrids and classify groupings. It has a wide distribution in eastern Asia and can be found on forest margins and grassy hillsides. It is listed as "least concern" on the Red List of vascular plants and has been cultivated for centuries in Japan. While it can be difficult to grow in some regions, it prefers well-drained, humus-rich soils and full sun or partial shade. It can be propagated by division and is typically planted in September or March.
