Iris milesii, also known as the red flower iris, is a rhizomatous perennial plant native to the Himalayas, India, and China. It is a member of the Iris genus and is cultivated as an ornamental plant in temperate regions. Its leaves are sword-shaped and its flowers are pinkish-violet, pinkish purple, or pinkish-lavender with a fringed yellow or orange crest. It is one of the tallest species in the crested irises group and has been studied for its chemical composition. The plant is hardy and prefers well-drained, sandy, peaty soils in a sunny or semi-shade position. It can be propagated through division or seed growing, but caution should be taken as all parts of the plant are poisonous if ingested.

Suggest a correction or add new data!Start at 4°C for 3 months, then warm to 20°C for another 3 months. |
Requires Darkness: These seeds need to be covered with soil or otherwise kept in the dark to germinate properly. Light inhibits their germination process. |
sow fresh or soak old seed; prechill 4 weeks or place outdoors over winter and bring indoors once germinated to avoid temperature shock; transplant at 4 leaves |
