Iris kuschakewiczii is a bulbous perennial plant belonging to the genus Iris and subgenus Scorpiris. It is native to the hills of Kazakhstan and has dark green glaucous leaves, a short stem, and spring flowers in shades of purple. The plant has a 1.5 cm bulb with thickened storage roots and 4-5 clustered leaves with a white edge. It grows up to 10-15 cm in height and blooms in April-May with non-scented flowers. The flowers come in various shades of purple and have dark violet blotches and lines on the falls. The plant was originally published as Iris kuschakewiczi in 1905 and later re-published as Juno kuschakewiczii in 1958. It was named after Russian botanist A. A. Kuschakewicz and can be found in Turkestan and Central Asia. Iris kuschakewiczii is fairly easy to grow in cultivation and can be grown in an alpine house or outside in a sheltered, sunny raised bed.
