Iris histrioides, also known as the orchis iris, winter iris, or Harput iris, is a bulbous perennial plant native to Turkey. It has blue, scented flowers and is often cultivated as an ornamental plant in temperate regions. It has a short stem and leaves that grow up to 40-50 cm high. The flowers bloom in early spring and can vary in shade from bright blue to violet. This plant has been counted several times, with reported chromosome numbers differing. It is commonly found on mountain slopes within pine forests at an altitude of 1,500 meters above sea level. It is a hardy species, suitable for rock or gravel gardens, and is represented in cultivation by several cultivars. The plant is toxic if ingested and has been used as a food ingredient in Turkey.
