It is recommended to wear gloves when handling the plant. Overall, Iris bloudowii is a rhizomatous perennial species in the genus Iris, found in Russia, Siberia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and China. It has sickle-shaped leaves, a slender stem, and bright or pale yellow flowers. It is commonly grown as an ornamental plant in temperate regions and is similar in appearance to Iris humilis. The plant has a thick rhizome with numerous yellow-white roots, and its leaves are deciduous and die away after flowering. The stem holds 2-3 reddish-purple spathes and 2 terminal flowers that bloom in late spring. The flowers are 5-6 cm in diameter and come in shades of yellow. The plant is diploid and has been studied genetically, with a chromosome count of 2n=26. It is commonly known as 'Bludov iris' or 'Bludova iris' in Russia and 'Central Asian iris' in China. The specific epithet, bloudowii, refers to Count Dmitri N. Bludova, a former President of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Iris bloudowii is hardy and prefers well-drained, sandy soils in full sun.
