Iris bismarckiana, also known as the Nazareth iris, is a species of rhizomatous perennial plant in the genus Iris. It is native to Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria and is characterized by its long, sword-shaped leaves and tall stems that bear a single flower in the spring. The large flower has a pale yellow, creamy-white, or white background with reddish-brown, maroon, purple, or blue markings and a dark purple to black beard. It is rarely cultivated as an ornamental plant in temperate regions due to its need for dry conditions during the summer. The plant is also known for its use in perfumes and as a symbol of the city of Nof HaGalil. However, it is considered an endangered species due to threats from urbanization, animal grazing, and invasive plants.
