Iris barnumiae subsp. demawendica is a species of iris found in the Elburz Mountains in Iran. It is a rhizomatous perennial with erect, grey-green leaves and two large flowers in shades of claret-red, burgundy, violet-blue, or dark purple with a white or cream beard. It is classified as a subspecies of Iris barnumiae and is rarely cultivated as an ornamental plant due to its specific environmental preferences. The plant was originally thought to be a separate species before being reclassified multiple times. It is native to Asia and can be found at altitudes of 2,300-4,200 meters above sea level. The plant is toxic if ingested and may cause skin irritation. It has been featured on a set of stamps in Iran.
