Iris afghanica is a plant species in the genus Iris that is native to Afghanistan. It is a rhizomatous perennial with thin bluish-green leaves and creamy yellow or white flowers that are veined with purple-brown. The plant is cultivated as an ornamental in temperate regions and can vary in color and size in the wild. It has been counted twice as having 2n=22 chromosomes and is commonly published as such. The specific epithet "afghanica" refers to its country of origin. It was first described in 1972 and is an accepted name by the RHS. It grows on sunny, rocky mountain slopes and can be found at altitudes of 1,500 to 3,300 meters. The plant is hardy and best grown in well-drained soils in a sunny location. It is rare in cultivation but can be propagated by division or seed growing. Like other irises, it is toxic if ingested and can cause skin irritation.
