Ruscus hypoglossum is a small evergreen shrub found in Italy, Austria, Slovakia, Turkey, and Crimea. It is also known as spineless butcher's-broom, mouse thorn, and horse tongue lily. The plant can grow up to 46 cm in height and has leaf-like flattened stems. It produces small yellow flowers and rarely produces red berries. The name Ruscus comes from an old Latin name for prickly plants, while the species name hypoglossum refers to the plant's cladodes extending beneath the flowers.
