Allium hookeri is a plant species native to India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Bhutan, and southwestern China. Commonly known as Hooker chives or garlic chives, it is widely cultivated outside its native range and valued as a food item in much of South and Southeast Asia. The plant has thick, fleshy roots and a cluster of thin bulbs, scapes up to 60 cm tall, and flat, narrow leaves about the same length as the scapes. It produces umbels crowded with many white or greenish-yellow flowers. It is used in cooking, eaten raw or cooked, and has antifungal and antibacterial properties.
