Helwingia chinensis is a plant species that was first identified by Alexander Theodorowicz Batalin. It belongs to the genus Helwingia and the family Helwingiaceae. This plant was discovered and brought to the United States by Daniel J. Hinkley during his trip to China's Sichuan Province in 1996. There is also a variety of this species known as Helwingia chinensis var. crenata.
