Tmesipteris truncata, also known as Fork Fern, is a primitive plant found only in eastern Australia. It grows in various habitats such as under waterfalls, sandstone gullies, and rainforests. It is commonly found growing on the base of the King Fern and can be seen as an epiphyte, lithophyte, or terrestrial plant. Its stems are typically 15 to 30 cm long with three or four grooves at the base. The leaves are narrow and linear to oblong in shape, with a midvein that ends in a thin point. The plant's specific epithet, truncata, refers to the abrupt cut-off appearance of its leaf tops. It was first described in 1810 by Scottish botanist Robert Brown in his book Prodromus Florae Novae Hollandiae. Tmesipteris truncata is found as far south as Mount Dromedary and its synangia, or reproductive structures, are typically 3 to 5 mm long.
