Pteris tremula, also known as Australian brake or tender brakefern, is a fern species native to eastern Australia and New Zealand. It has pale green, lacy fronds and a tufted rhizome covered in brown scales. This fast-growing plant is easy to cultivate, but can become weedy. It belongs to the Pteridaceae family and is part of the large genus Pteris. There are four known varieties of Pteris tremula. This terrestrial fern can reach up to 2 meters in height and is found in sheltered areas in wet sclerophyll and rainforests. It has also been naturalized in Argentina. Pteris tremula is commonly grown in home gardens and prefers a shady spot with good drainage and filtered morning light. It was once the most commonly cultivated Pteris species in the United States.
