Polypodium hesperium, also known as western polypody, is a fern species found in western North America. It grows in rocky areas and is a hybrid of two other fern species, Polypodium glycyrrhiza and Polypodium amorphum. This fern has a thin, scaly rhizome and produces oblong leaves with many linear or lance-shaped segments. These segments can vary in texture and may have smooth or serrated edges. The underside of the leaves contains sori, which are structures that hold the spores for reproduction.
