Cystopteris tenuis, also known as Mackay's bladder fern or Mackay's fragile fern, is a species of fern that was previously thought to be a part of the fragile fern superspecies. It is an allotetraploid, meaning it has four sets of chromosomes, and is believed to be a hybrid of two extinct species, Cystopteris protrusa and Cystopteris hemifragilis. This species is known to hybridize with other ferns, such as Cystopteris bulbifera and Cystopteris tennesseensis, to produce new hybrids. Mackay's fragile fern is typically found growing on rocks or in scree in sheltered areas in the northeastern United States.
