Asplenium trichomanes, also known as the maidenhair spleenwort, is a small fern found in rocky habitats worldwide. It has several subspecies and is known for its hardiness, evergreen foliage, and ability to grow in crevices. It has been recognized as a distinct species due to its diploid, tetraploid, and hexaploid cytotypes. It is commonly found in mountainous areas and is valued in cultivation for its delicate appearance. Its taxonomy includes several subspecies, each with different preferences for types of rocks and varying characteristics. It has also been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
