Asplenium ruprechtii, also known as Asian Walking Fern, is a rare and resilient fern native to East Asia. It is closely related to the North American walking fern, Asplenium rhizophyllum, and should not be confused with Asplenium sibiricum. The name "walking fern" comes from the way the plant spreads, with new plantlets sprouting from the tips of the leaves when they touch the ground. The plant has triangular, evergreen leaves with spore-bearing structures on the underside. It can be found in shady areas on limestone ledges and in limy forests. A global study of the Asplenium genus in 2020 placed A. ruprechtii in the "A. cordatum subclade" of the "Schaffneria clade", which is widely distributed and includes a variety of forms and habitats. A. ruprechtii's closest relative is A. rhizophyllum, which shares similar leaf characteristics and a proliferating tip, while the other three species in the subclade are scaly spleenworts found in dry habitats in Africa and the Middle East.
