Alsophila leichhardtiana, also known as Cyathea leichhardtiana or the prickly tree fern, is a plant found in eastern Australia. It belongs to the tree fern family, Cyatheaceae, and is commonly found in moist areas near rainforests. It was named after the explorer and botanist Ludwig Leichhardt. This fern can grow between one and seven meters tall and is easily identified by its thin, prickly trunk and long fronds. The sori, or spore-producing structures, do not have true indusia and are surrounded by a ring of scales. It was first described in 1865 and has been transferred between different genera, but is currently classified as Alsophila leichhardtiana.
