Pinus occidentalis, also known as the Hispaniolan pine, is a pine tree found only on the island of Hispaniola, split between the Dominican Republic and Haiti. It is a key species in the Hispaniolan pine forests ecosystem, making up a majority of the biomass. The Hispaniolan crossbill, another endemic species, relies heavily on the cones of P. occidentalis for food. This tree plays an important role in the ecology of Hispaniola and is a unique and valuable species on the island.
