Pinus muricata, also known as the bishop pine, is a coniferous evergreen tree found primarily in California and a few locations in Baja California, Mexico. It is typically found near the coast and in disturbed, unvegetated areas. The tree has a variety of common names and has been used in plantations for its fast growth, but this has had negative effects on biodiversity. It has ornamental value and has been cultivated in parks and gardens. The tree has two distinct forms, a southern form with bright green needles and a northern form with dark blue-green needles. It is often found with oak and cypress associates in the California Coast Ranges and is classified as an endangered species in Mexico.
