Pinus gerardiana, also known as the chilghoza pine or neja, is a pine tree native to the northwestern Himalayas in Afghanistan, northern Pakistan, Waziristan, and northwestern India. It typically grows at elevations of 1,800–3,350 metres and is often found in association with Cedrus deodara and Pinus wallichiana. The trees can reach heights of 15–25 metres and have deep, wide crowns with long branches. The bark is flaky and olive-green branchlets. The leaves are needle-like and glossy green with blue-green lines on the inner surface. The cones are large and contain seeds, known as pine nuts, which are harvested for consumption. This species is listed as near threatened on the IUCN Red List due to declining populations caused by deforestation and overharvesting. It is an important cash crop in Afghanistan and certain regions of India.
