Macrozamia miquelii is a species of cycad found in Eastern Australia, specifically in Queensland and New South Wales. It grows in nutrient-poor soils within sclerophyll forests dominated by eucalyptus trees. This cycad is known for its medium height, intermediate-sized cones, and lighter green leaves compared to other cycads in the Zamiaceae family. Its seeds have an orange-red sarcotesta that attracts fauna for mutualistic seed dispersal. The seeds are also edible for humans if properly prepared to remove toxins. Macrozamia miquelii has a subterranean caudex and 20-80 dark green leaves with 80-160 leaflets. It is dioecious, with male cones growing up to 28 cm and female cones up to 40 cm. The cycad is found in southern Queensland and northern NSW, and its mature cones attract thrips for pollination. The bright sarcotesta attracts birds and mammals for seed dispersal, with larger animals like emus and cassowaries contributing to seed dispersal.
