Cycas zeylanica is a plant endemic to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, formerly also present in Sri Lanka until the December 2004 tsunami destroyed the last remnants of the population. It is an unbranched shrub up to 3 m tall with glossy, pinnately compound leaves up to 200 cm long and up to 100 leaflets. Pollen-producing cones are fusiform and microsporophylls are up to 45 mm long. Megasporophylls are up to 30 cm long and each has 2-5 ovules. The seeds are flattened to ovoid and orange-brown in color. Commonly known as maha-madu in Sri Lanka.
