Cycas pectinata is a widespread cycad species that was first described in 1826 by Scottish surgeon and botanist Francis Buchanan-Hamilton. It is found in various countries in Asia, including India, Nepal, China, and Vietnam. This species can grow up to 40 feet tall and has large male cones. However, it is under threat in Northeast India due to deforestation and overcollection of male cones for traditional medicine. Efforts are being made to conserve this species, including a conservation program in Manipur and a Cycad Volleyball Tournament to raise awareness and involve local communities in protecting the species. Cycas pectinata also has economic and traditional uses, such as being grown as an ornamental plant and used for food and medicinal purposes.
