Podocarpus aristulatus is a small to medium-sized evergreen tree that belongs to the conifer family Podocarpaceae. It can be found on the Caribbean islands of Hispaniola and Cuba. This tree can grow up to 10-20 meters tall and has elliptical to linear leaves that are arranged spirally on the shoots. Its seed cones are berry-like and have a fleshy red receptacle with one or occasionally two seeds. In the Dominican Republic, it is known as "palo de cruz" and is used for making axe handles and pestles due to its durable wood. The leaves of this tree are also used for medicinal teas and are believed to ward off evil spirits when placed above door frames. This tree has several synonyms, including Nageia aristulata and Podocarpus buchii.
