Takakia ceratophylla is a species of toothless moss that was first described by William Mitten in 1861. It is vulnerable and threatened by habitat loss due to human activities. It is found in China, India, Nepal, and the United States in rocky areas and cold deserts. The gametophyte has rigid green shoots, tapered and deeply-lobed leaves, and a unique colourless intercalary rhizomatous branch. The sporophyte is protected by a small hood-like calyptra, has a long-tapered foot, and relies on passive spore release.
