It is native to Europe, Asia, and North America, where it is found in moist, shady habitats. It grows in dense, bright green tufts, and its leaves are ovate-lanceolate in shape. The leaves are typically 1-2 mm long, and have a smooth, glossy surface. The stems are reddish-brown in color, and the capsules are yellowish-brown.

Mnium hornum, commonly known as horn calcareous moss, is a species of moss native to Europe, Asia, and North America. It grows in moist, shady habitats in dense, bright green tufts. Its leaves are ovate-lanceolate in shape, 1-2 mm long, and have a smooth, glossy surface. The stems are reddish-brown and the capsules are yellowish-brown.
