Roscoea nepalensis is a perennial herbaceous plant that belongs to the ginger family (Zingiberaceae). Unlike most members of this family, which are found in tropical regions, R. nepalensis is able to thrive in colder mountainous regions, such as those found in Nepal. It grows from a short vertical rhizome and produces "pseudostems" that resemble stems but are actually formed from tightly wrapped leaves. The plant typically reaches a height of 10-26 cm and has 3-8 leaves, with the first few consisting only of sheaths. The flowers of R. nepalensis bloom in June to July and are white in color. They have a unique structure, with a tube-shaped outer calyx, three petals, and four sterile staminodes. R. nepalensis is a distinct species and is only known to have white flowers. It was first described by botanist Elizabeth Jill Cowley in 1980 and its name refers to its occurrence in Nepal. The evolution and phylogeny of R. nepalensis suggest that it may have originated in the Himalayan region and spread to other areas. This species is found in Nepal at altitudes of 2,400-3,100 m
