Amomum subulatum, also known as Black cardamom, is a perennial herbaceous plant in the ginger family. Its seed pods have a strong, smoky flavor and are used as a spice in savory dishes. It is different from green cardamom and is primarily used in Indian and Pakistani cuisines. There are two distinct species of black cardamom, with Nepal being the largest producer. In traditional medicine, it is used for stomach disorders and malaria in Chinese medicine, and for jaundice in Indian medicine.
